Let's face it....many stock parts are terrible in the aesthetics (and performance) departments making it a must that we replace them. Sure, its more money spent but at the end of the day the bike runs better and does look significantly better.
One of the worst, in my opinion, factory parts (close second the to the exhaust!) is the air cleaner can. The dinner plate sized cover is absolutely ludicrous. While it's not an inexpensive modification, its a must to budget into your purchase if you ask me.
See below photos as this one is straight forward and doesn't require any how-to videos. Simply remove some bolts, make sure everything is cleaned up and install the new unit. Pay attention to your service manual for torque specifications as well as any thread locker (as needed).
1) Remove this screw from the center of the cover. Once removed you simply pull the metal can off the bike.
2) Take these 3 screws come off and remove the metal backing plate. Once the metal plate is removed you just pull the air filter straight off the bike.
3) This is what you are left with. Make sure to clean up around all of the holes. The 2 high-lighted holes below are where the breather bolts (if you decide to go that route, which I am) screw straight into your heads. Depending on your air cleaner and what setup you decide to use will determine the breather bolt size that you need to use when installing your new air-cleaner. That will be explained in a separate post. As always, pay attention to torque requirements in your service manual and any gasket replacements where needed.
