Throttle + Idle Cable Replacement

Writer's picture: TylerTyler

This one is pure aesthetics for me. While braided/stainless steel brake lines do offer superior performance, my application doesn't really call for upgraded throttle and idle cables, and in general that applies to nearly all cruiser style bikes. The most often cause for replacement is due to the need for increased length after adding higher handlebars. That didn't apply here, either!

Stock cables would have worked with my amazing Road6 Customs handlebars (www.road6customs.com) since I only went up 10 inches, but I wanted the throttle and idle cables to match my brake and clutch cable...below are some photos of the install process. No need to do a lengthy how-to video with this (but there is a short clip below!) as its a simple swap in and out of the stock parts with the new cables. All fitments should match right up to the factory setup -- if they dont STOP -- and call whoever you ordered the cables from to ensure you ordered the right ones.

In the above video that is just one of the two cables that run to your throttle assembly. To prevent confusion or mixing up cables I suggest you do one cable at a time. Take one off, replace it, then move to the next. The throttle and idle cables are slightly different, with one having a small spring in line where it connects to the throttle body on the engine. PAY ATTENTION TO THIS! Its vital to make sure you put the throttle and idle cables in the right slots and don't mix them up. See photo below of the cable with the spring in line...
